Youth and Kids Committee – Role and Responsibilities

The Youth and Kids Committee of CATCA (Catholic Tamil Community Association) is dedicated to nurturing the faith, talents, and leadership of the younger members of the community. The committee creates programs, activities, and opportunities that help children and youth grow spiritually, socially, and culturally while fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility within the CATCA family.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Youth and Kids Committee is to provide a safe, fun, and faith-centered environment where young members can learn about Catholic values, explore their cultural heritage, develop leadership skills, and actively participate in community life.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Faith Formation and Religious Activities:

• Organize age-appropriate catechism sessions, Bible studies, and prayer gatherings.

• Plan youth Mass participation, altar serving, and other liturgical roles.

• Encourage active engagement in faith-based discussions and reflection activities.

2. Cultural and Social Programs:

• Coordinate cultural programs, competitions, and performances for children and youth during CATCA events.

• Encourage participation in music, dance, drama, and art activities that celebrate Tamil and Christian heritage.

• Organize social gatherings, camps, and youth retreats to foster camaraderie and spiritual growth.

3. Leadership and Skill Development:

• Mentor youth to take on responsibilities in event planning, volunteering, and community service.

• Encourage participation in committees, service projects, and public speaking opportunities.

• Develop teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational skills through structured programs.

4. Volunteer Engagement:

• Recruit and train youth volunteers for assisting in CATCA events, outreach programs, and hospitality initiatives.

• Encourage older youth to mentor younger children, creating a supportive intergenerational community.

• Recognize and celebrate achievements and contributions of young members.

5. Collaboration with Other Committees:

• Coordinate with the Cultural Committee for youth participation in performances.

• Work with the Liturgy and Music Ministries for liturgical involvement of children and teens.

• Partner with the Charity & Outreach Committee to involve youth in service and giving initiatives.

6. Safe and Inclusive Environment:

• Ensure all programs and activities are conducted in a safe, respectful, and inclusive manner.

• Promote positive values, discipline, and mutual respect among youth participants.

• Maintain appropriate supervision and compliance with child safety policies.

7. Engagement and Communication:

• Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.

• Use social media, newsletters, and announcements to keep youth informed and engaged.
