Charity & Outreach Committee – Role and Responsibilities

The Charity & Outreach Committee of CATCA (Catholic Area Tamil Catholic Association) serves as the compassionate arm of the organization. Rooted in the Christian call to love and serve others, the committee leads efforts to support individuals and families in need — both within the community and beyond. Its mission is to bring hope, healing, and help through acts of charity, kindness, and service.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Charity & Outreach Committee is to live out CATCA’s faith through action by organizing charitable initiatives, community service programs, and outreach activities that reflect the Gospel values of mercy, compassion, and generosity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Charitable Initiatives:

• Plan and execute charitable drives such as food, clothing, or toy collections.

• Organize fundraising efforts for local, national, or international causes — including disaster relief, healthcare needs, and support for underprivileged communities.

• Coordinate donations from members and ensure proper distribution to verified beneficiaries.

2. Community Outreach:

• Build partnerships with local parishes, charities, and nonprofit organizations to extend CATCA’s reach in serving others.

• Support community events such as hospital visits, senior care assistance, or volunteering at shelters.

• Encourage families and youth to participate in outreach projects, nurturing a spirit of service from a young age.

3. Emergency and Member Support:

• Offer compassionate assistance to CATCA families facing hardships due to illness, loss, or unexpected crises.

• Coordinate help in the form of meals, prayer support, or financial assistance when appropriate.

• Maintain confidentiality and dignity in all charitable actions.

4. Faith in Action:

• Organize charity-focused programs during major liturgical seasons — Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter — to inspire giving and reflection.

• Promote spiritual growth through acts of service and empathy toward neighbors and the less fortunate.

• Integrate prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving into all outreach initiatives.

5. Coordination with Other Committees:

• Collaborate with the Finance Committee to manage charitable funds responsibly and transparently.

• Work with the Media Committee to promote awareness of ongoing charity projects.

• Coordinate with the Event Management and Hospitality Committees for charity-related events or donation drives.

6. Awareness and Education:

• Educate members about Catholic social teachings and the importance of serving others.

• Share stories of impact and gratitude to motivate continued participation and generosity.

• Inspire members to see service as an expression of faith and discipleship.

7. Accountability and Stewardship:

• Maintain records of charitable activities, collections, and disbursements.

• Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Committee.

• Ensure that all charitable work is carried out with integrity, transparency, and compassion.

In Summary:

The Charity & Outreach Committee is the hands of Christ in action within CATCA.

By extending compassion to the needy and promoting a culture of giving, the committee helps transform faith into service. Through their dedication, CATCA becomes not just a community of believers, but a living example of Christian love and generosity.
