Liturgy Committee – Role and Responsibilities

The Liturgy Committee of CATCA (Catholic Tamil Community Association) is entrusted with the sacred responsibility of planning, preparing, and coordinating all aspects of the community’s liturgical celebrations. The committee ensures that every Mass, prayer service, and sacramental celebration is conducted with reverence, beauty, and spiritual depth — helping participants grow in faith and experience the presence of God through worship.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Liturgy Committee is to foster active and meaningful participation of the faithful in the liturgy, in accordance with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. Through careful preparation and collaboration, the committee enhances the spiritual life of the community and strengthens unity among members.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Liturgical Planning and Preparation:

• Plan and organize all liturgical celebrations, including monthly Masses, feast days, and special events such as Christmas, Easter, and Lent.

• Coordinate with the presiding priests to ensure all liturgical elements align with the Church calendar and liturgical norms.

• Prepare liturgical themes, readings, and prayers that reflect the occasion and community spirit.

2. Coordination of Liturgical Ministries:

• Organize and schedule lectors, altar servers, eucharistic ministers, and ushers for each Mass.

• Ensure that all volunteers are properly trained and understand their roles in the liturgy.

• Encourage active participation of children and youth in appropriate liturgical roles.

3. Collaboration with Choir and Music Ministry:

• Work closely with the Choir Director to select hymns that complement the readings and liturgical season.

• Coordinate rehearsals for special celebrations to ensure smooth transitions and reverent flow.

• Encourage the integration of Tamil and English hymns to reflect the cultural richness of the community.

4. Liturgical Environment and Décor:

• Arrange the altar and worship space in a manner that enhances prayer and reverence.

• Plan church decorations according to liturgical seasons — Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and special feast days.

• Ensure that sacred vessels, vestments, and liturgical items are properly cared for and prepared before each celebration.

5. Special Services and Devotions:

• Organize prayer gatherings, rosary services, adoration, and special devotions that deepen spiritual life.

• Support family-centered liturgies and community-focused religious events.

• Collaborate with the Cultural and Event Committees when liturgical elements are part of larger community celebrations.

6. Education and Formation:

• Promote understanding of the liturgy among members by explaining the meaning and significance of various parts of the Mass.

• Provide training sessions or orientations for new liturgical volunteers.

• Encourage prayerful preparation and reflection before each celebration.

7. Reverence and Spiritual Focus:

• Maintain a prayerful atmosphere before, during, and after liturgical celebrations.

• Ensure that all aspects of the liturgy reflect CATCA’s Catholic faith, unity, and devotion to God.

• Help the community grow spiritually by creating a welcoming and worshipful environment.

In Summary:

The Liturgy Committee serves as the spiritual core of CATCA’s activities.

Through thoughtful planning, prayerful preparation, and faithful service, the committee ensures that every liturgical celebration becomes an encounter with God — deepening faith, building unity, and inspiring the community to live the Gospel in daily life.
