✝ Brief History About Baltimore - St. Jude Anbium
St. Jude Anbium – Baltimore Tamil Catholic Community
A small group of Tamil Catholics from the Baltimore area, along with two guests from Virginia, came together on May 30, 2009, to celebrate a Tamil Mass at St. Stephen’s Church in Kingsville, Maryland. This special day marked the beginning of a beautiful spiritual journey. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Sundaram Emmanuel, who was then serving as the assistant parish priest at St. Stephen’s. His vision and encouragement on that day planted the seed for what would eventually grow into the Baltimore Anbium, a thriving faith community of Tamil Catholics united in prayer and fellowship.
Our Anbium chose St. Jude, the patron saint of hope and impossible causes, as our heavenly patron—a fitting choice, as a St. Jude Church has stood in Baltimore for over a century, serving as a symbol of faith and perseverance for countless believers. Under his intercession, our Anbium continues to grow in faith, love, and service to God.
We meet monthly to celebrate the Holy Mass and prayers, providing a sacred space where families can worship together in Tamil and strengthen their bond with God and one another. These gatherings are moments of renewal—filled with devotion, reflection, and a sense of shared purpose. Over the years, our Anbium has become more than just a prayer group; it is a spiritual family where friendships flourish, faith deepens, and God’s presence is felt in every heart.
Being part of CATCA (Capital Area Tamil Catholic Association) has further enriched our journey by giving us a platform to connect with other Tamil Catholic families across the region. Through CATCA, we celebrate our language, culture, and Catholic faith together, building unity and fostering a deep sense of belonging. This connection reminds us that, even far from our homeland, we are part of a larger family bound by love, faith, and shared values.
For every member of the Baltimore St. Jude Anbium, this community is a source of strength and joy—a place where we find spiritual nourishment, cultural identity, and lasting friendships. With gratitude for our humble beginnings and faith in God’s guidance, we continue our mission: to pray together, serve together, and grow together under the loving protection of St. Jude, our patron and intercessor.
